The United States Space Force is the space-operations branch of the U.S. Armed Forces and the country's sixth and newest military service, established in 2019. Its mission is to organize, train, and equip forces to protect U.S. and allied interests in space and to provide space capabilities to the joint military. It operates within the Department of the Air Force, is led by the Chief of Space Operations, and its members are known as Guardians.
