The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) is an independent agency of the United States federal government that invests in development projects primarily in lower- and middle-income countries. It was established on December 20, 2019, under the BUILD Act of 2018, through a merger of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) and the Development Credit Authority of USAID, along with several smaller offices and funds. The DFC provides financing tools including loans, loan guarantees, equity investments, and political risk insurance to support private-sector development abroad.
