Ross William Ulbricht is an American cybercriminal best known for creating and operating Silk Road, the first modern darknet market, which facilitated anonymous trade in narcotics and other illegal goods and services using bitcoin on the Tor network. He operated the site under the pseudonym "Dread Pirate Roberts" until his arrest in 2013, after which he was sentenced to life in prison. President Donald Trump granted Ulbricht a full and unconditional pardon.
